Varanus salvator macromaculatus Da.: Båndvaran Eng.: Southeast Asian Water Monitor Fr.:Varan malais Ger.:  Bindenvaran

This specimen from Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia, is quite large - in the region of 1,7 meters in length. The subspecies is alledged to be able to grow to nearly 3 meters!        A friendly specimen - these pictures are taken using a flash in 7-8 m distance.
