Qaanaaq bay, Greenland
The impressive sight of the closest of the 3 glaciers ending in the Qaanaaq bay.

The vast entrance of the bay .....

American next-in-command and danish nurse Mette of the Thule Air Base Hospital joined me on this walk to the bay.

When icebergs break off the glacier, a virtual "tidal wave" wash along the coast and lift "icecubes" of several hundred kilos and even tonnes to the stony shore.

Some 30 yrds high - and God knowws how many kilometers wide - it was an awesome experience to stand at the rim of the glacier - at water level!
